Georgia M (Alston) Womble

Georgia M. Womble, 90, of Rantoul, IL passed away at her home surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

Funeral services will be held on the morning of Thursday, December 21 at 11:00 at the Greater New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 Shepherd Place, Rantoul.  Rev. Otis Evans will officiate.  Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery, Danville, IL.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at Greater New Light.

Georgia was born February 1, 1933 in Pittsboro, NC, a daughter of General and Nellie (Emerson) Alston.  She married Henry M. Womble on December 24, 1954 in Pittsboro. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1981.

She is survived by a son, Henry V. Womble of Rantoul, 2 daughters, Althea Womble of Houston, TX; Teresa (Kevin) Snell of Tujunga, CA, a brother G.V. Alston of Baltimore, MD,  5 grandchildren, Dae; Ashleigh; Monisha; Mya; Matthew,  5 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and 6 sisters.

She retired from Combe Laboratories in Rantoul and was then involved with home health care until she finally retired permanently.  She a member of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church where she was president of the Usher Board.

She was a sweet, soft and easy going woman but strong in her faith.  She will be loved and missed by her family and many others.
