George Wilson

George A. Wilson, 80, of Danville passed away on March 23, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital. George was born August 22, 1928 in Westville, Illinois son of Ocie and Jessica Wilson. Survivors include three children: Scott K. Wilson of Twin Lakes, WI, Corey (Pam) Wilson of Danville, IL, and Sherry (Jerry) McDougal of Chandler, AZ; sister: Mary Jane Webb of Danville, IL; grandchildren: Courtney (Dan) Walker of Chandler, AZ and Emily Marie Wilson of Danville, IL; and great-grandchild: Asher Dean Walker of Chandler, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Fleming. George attended Douglas grade school, was a 45 graduate of Danville High School, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the service, he attended Utterback & Brown Business College, Tebbens Business School, American School of Banking, Illinois Bankers School, and the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He was a banker with the Palmer American National Bank (Old National Bancorp) in Danville for forty-seven years (1947-1994). He began his banking career as Palmers bookkeeper, teller, advertising, assistant cashier, cashier, and Board of Directors. George was involved with several civic organizations including the United Way, Ambucs, Masons and the Elks. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing golf. He loved his family and will be dearly missed. He enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters and great grandson. A visitation will be held from 3-7 pm Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Per Georges wishes, a private service will be held on Thursday followed by a cremation. Memorials may be made in his name to the Vermilion County Museum.
