George Schabowski Sr

George Valentine Schabowski Sr., 81, of Westville, passed away at 3:45pm, Monday, December 20, 2009, at Kindred Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He was born on May 29, 1928, in Danville, IL, the son of Joseph and Ophie (Dunavan) Schabowski, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Thelma Netherton on April 2, 1948, in Kentucky. She will miss him dearly. Other survivors include: his son, George (Trish) Schabowski Jr of Westville; his granddaughter, Jami Schabowski of Westville; step grandchildren, Jessica (Jerran) Barnes of Kokomo, IN, & Stacey Trott of Westville; his great granddaughter, Mackenzie Schabowski; and his step great grandchildren, Braeton Barnes, Korryn Trott, Khawmon Trott, & Brennan Strawn. He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Joseph one sister, Gertrude; and one step great grandchild, Dalton Trott. George worked for General Motors from 1948 until his retirement in 1988 in the pattern shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in the garden. He loved to travel with his wife, Thelma. He was a big Chicago Cubs & Bears fan. George truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially Mackenzie. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm until service time. Rev. Connie Bandy will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Springhill Cemetery, Danville. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Trinity United Church of Christ, 311 Moses, Westville.
