George Russell Morrison

George Russell Morrison, 90, of Georgetown, passed away at 4:03am, Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Presence USMC, Danville. He was born February 22, 1926, in Georgetown the son of Fred and Ruth {Miller} Morrison. He was united in marriage to Colleen Joyce McMaster on June 18, 1948, in Georgetown. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his daughters, Debra (Michael) Knight of Covington, IN, and Janet (Rodney) Hatcher of Cayuga, IN; his brother, Ronald (Maxine) Morrison of Georgetown; and his three grandchildren, Kelli (Brent) Morgan, Jacob Hatcher, & Lucas Hatcher. He was preceded in death by: his parents; infant son, David Howard Morrison; and siblings, Goldie Shrout, Charles Morrison, Hazel Maskel, Robert Morrison, and Donald Morrison. George was a proud Veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII for two years in the South Pacific. He worked at Hyster for 38 years retiring in 1988 as an inspector. He was an active member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church since 1961. He served as Trustee and Usher and helped in all aspects of the Church. He was known to greet many coming in during services and luncheons. He also had a close relationship with his preacher. George enjoyed having coffee with his friends at McDonald's. He loved being outdoors and always said he grew up in the woods. He loved gardening and keeping the yard mowed. George was very proud of his girls and grandchildren and loved them very much. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of George's life will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 8, 2016, at Georgetown United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Filicsky officiating. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery with Military rites conducted by the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Georgetown United Methodist Church Renovation Fund.
