George R. Powell, 51, of Westville, was born on December 11, 1966 to Patricia Jones-Bush, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He is survived by: his Mother, Patricia Bush; his Wife, Michele Powell; his children, Nathan Neal & Taylor (Ricky) Kiger; his granddaughter, Ariana Kiger; his brothers John (Brenda) Bush & Jason (Stephanie) Bush; his father & mother-in-law, Terry & Sharon Elliott; his brother & sister-in-law, Michael & Shelley Hillison; his brother-in-law, Terry Elliott Jr.; and his many nieces & nephews. George served as Fire Chief for the Perrysville, Indiana Fire Department, worked at the Newport Army Ammunition Plant, and as Safety Manager at Viscofan in Danville. George was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending early mornings in his tree stand scoping out his next big buck. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother, but above all else, he loved being "Pap", the name Ariana had given him. She was Pap's girl, and everyone knew it. The two of them could often be seen cuddled up in his chair watching TV. George always had a great upbeat attitude even after his diagnosis with Glioblastoma. He knew no strangers and always had a smile on his face. A celebration of George's life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville, with Kevin Cox officiating. Visitation will be 4pm-7pm, Friday, January 12, 2018, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville. Memorial donations may be given to the family to help with final expenses. Please join his family in sharing memories through his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
