George Robert Pop Popadines, 80, of Danville, IL passed this life at home, after a long battle with cancer, on Wedenesday September 23rd at 4:45 PM surrounded by loved ones. George was born May 1st 1929 to Charles and Anna Popadines. He married Norma Jean Bennett of Danville on February 23rd, 1951. They enjoyed a wonderful 58 year marriage. He spent 3 years in the Air Force, and was stationed in England for some time. George worked at Hyster for 41 years before retiring. After retirement, George continued to stay active volunteering at Cris Senior Services and the Nexlan Kennekuk Kids runs for many years. George enjoyed bass fishing, golfing, gardening, square dancing, taking photographs, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. George and his wife especially enjoyed traveling and have vacationed in all 50 states. George will be remembered for his love for life, his stubborn disposition, and his kind and loving heart. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Popadines; 3 brothers, Steve Petris, Charles Popadines and Alex Popadines; 2 sisters, Mary Petris and Helena Babb. Daughter, Carol Popadines, and one Grandson Keith Downing. Survivors include wife, Norma Popadines; Son, Paul (Sue)Popadines; daughter, Beth (Robin) Miller, all of Danville, Grandsons Cameran Miller of Danville, Keith Pickering of Westville;, granddaughter Tabitha Miller of Danville, and Great Grandsons, Josh Downing of Poland, Indiana, Shannon Downing of Rossville and Warren Pickering of Columbus, Ohio. Thank you to Georges angels: the medical staff that have helped George throughout his illness. A celebration of the life of George Popadines will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials can be made out to Cris Senior Services or Crosspoint Human Services.
