Danville - George Frances Mode, 93, of Danville, IL passed away at 4:30 am on Sunday March 26, 2017 at North Logan Healthcare in Danville, IL. George was born on June 15, 1923 the son of George H. and Genevieve Perrin Mode in Indianapolis, IN. He married Naomi Ruth Laflen on June 7, 1946 in Danville and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Naomi, one son, Chuck (Helen) Mode of Danville, IL, one sister, Martha Davis of Danville, IL, one granddaughter, Anna (Jeffrey) LoBue of Naperville, IL, one nephew, Scott Davis of Danville, IL and one niece, Marla (Mike) Lane of Danville, IL. George is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rev. Richard A. Mode. George is a member of St Paul's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 210 and a former member of the Danville Elks Club. George served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 until honorably discharged in 1946 and was stationed in England. George graduated from the University of Illinois with a Fine Arts Degree in 1951. He then worked as a commercial artist for the Earl W. Gasthoff Co. until 1973. He owned RG Display with his business partner Ron Dudley from 1973 until 1992. George was a member of the Danville Tennis Club and played tennis until he was 85 years old. He also enjoyed family birthday parties, fishing, traveling with his wife out East as well as Arizona to watch the Cubs in spring training, making handmade birthday cards for his family, building a rocking horse and doll house for his granddaughter Anna, designed and built a School Bus bookshelf, among other projects, for St Paul's Catholic School over the years. He enjoyed listening to classical music, opera, and Frank Sinatra. George was also known to his family as a purveyor of obscure facts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St Paul's Catholic Church, 1303 N Walnut Street in Danville, IL. Father Bo Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 210 Honorary Guard or St. Paul Catholic Church.
