George D. Vandevender

Cayuga, Ind. - George D. Vandevender, 81, of Cayuga, passed away at 7:25 p.m. CDT Monday, July 24, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

He was born February 24, 1936 in Cayuga, Indiana the son of the late William R. and Gladys May (Satterlee) Vandevender.

George first married Iris Axtell. She preceded him in death on January 20, 1975. He later married C. Sue Trammel on June 19, 1976 at the Eugene United Methodist Church in Eugene, Indiana. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Keith Alan Vandevender of Montezuma, Indiana; Cynthia (Douglas) Carpenter of Eugene, Indiana; Mary Anne (Don) Redinbo of Colfax, Indiana and Sandra Vandevender of Valdosta, Georgia; step daughter, Nancy Jill Anthony of Texas; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his grandson, William Wilson; two sisters, Barbara Walters and Helen Lewis, and an infant brother, Frank Colva Vandevender.

George retired from Tee Pak in 1998, but still occasionally contracted to help when needed. He was of Baptist faith. A 1954 graduate of Cayuga High School, George was Salutatorian in his class. He enjoyed woodworking, raising flowers, gardening and mowing. He especially enjoyed watching professional wrestling.
