George 'Butch' Schabowski Jr

George "Butch" Schabowski, Jr., 64, of Westville, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:40 am at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born September 21, 1951 in Danville to George V. and Thelma (Netherton) Schabowski. He married Patricia Miskus on July 23, 1994 at Fairview Church. She survives and will miss him greatly. Also surviving are his daughter, Jami Schabowski of Westville; stepdaughters, Stacey Barnes of Charleston and Jessica Barnes of Kokomo, IN; grandchildren, Mackenzie Schabowski, Braeton Barnes, Korryn Trott, Khaymon Trott, and Brennan Barnes; as well as many other close relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George, Sr., grandson, Dalton Trott, cousin, Julie Netherton, and close friends, Earl, Greg, and Jim. Butch was a millwright at General Motors for 30 years. He also proudly served his country in the US Army National Guard as a Sargent. Butch enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, the Illini and the Chicago Bears. The light of his world though was his grandchildren and being around them whenever he could. Butch also took great pride in being a member of the Westville American Legion Honor Guard Post #51 and was a past commander. Visitation will be held from 3-8 PM Friday, March 11, 2016 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville. Cremation rites will be accorded following and a celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel with burial to follow. Military honors will be performed by the Westville American Legion Post #51. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Westville American Legion Post #51 Honor Guard.
