Georege Robert 'Bob' Smiley

George Robert Bob' Smiley, 84, of Tilton, passed away at 8:28am on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at his residence. He was born on April 15, 1927, in Catlin, IL, the son of Vernon and Bessie (Miller) Smiley. Both are deceased. On August 31, 1946, Bob married Beverly Colby in Danville. Survivors include, his wife; Beverly of 65 years, and their four children; Michael R. (Susie) Smiley of Oakwood, James L. (Sherry) Smiley of Indiana, Debby J. (Sam) Howard of Tilton, and Laury Connor, also of Tilton. His nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one brother; Vernon Smiley of Danville, IL also survives Bob. In addition to his parents, his step-mother, one brother; Roger Smiley, and his two sisters; Beverly Zimmerman and Ilene Thompson, and his very best friend; Kenneth 'Kenny' Tucker preceded Bob in death. He worked at General Motors Tilton Foundry as a core lineman until his retirement. He was a member of the United Church of Tilton and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be missed by all that knew him. A Celebration of Bob Smiley Life has been scheduled for 10am on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pastor Anita Livengood has been asked to officiate Bob's service. His visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the Smiley family has asked that any donations be made to the United Church of Tilton.
