Geneva Smith

Geneva Pauline Smith of Mahomet, IL. passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. She was born on May 6, 1934 the daughter of Hastings McElhaney and Floley Mae (Eley) McElhaney in Shelbyville, TN.

Geneva was a devout Christian and long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Urbana, IL. She loved Country and Gospel music and was very happy to have attended her favorite singer, Blake Shelton’s concert. She was the owner of a children’s nursery, consignment shop owner and homemaker. She enjoyed her plants, extensive gnome collection and most importantly, her family.

She is survived by her brother; Don McElhaney (Sandy), Sister-in-law Toni McElhaney, children; Stephen Smith, Rick Smith (Jeanette), Pamela Hurlbert (Jim), Jennifer Marino, grandchildren; Richie Smith (Missy), Staci Chappell, Zach Smith, Jake Hurlbert (Susan), Liberty Randol, Geneva Marino, Michelle Hurlbert, Jamie Wiebe (Mike), great-grandchildren; Mandy Houston (Woody), Sean Houston, Nick Harris, Justin Smith, Kyle Smith, Emma Smith, Lyla Smith, Kelly Chappell, Autumn Chappell, Tia Hurlbert, Leilani Couch, Bailey Headlee, Zachery Brindley, Conner Brindley, Brooke Skinner, Brandon Teal, Drew Wiebe, Cameron Wiebe, great-great grandchildren; Sophia Bales, Keegan Skinner, Zayden Skinner, several nieces, nephews great nieces and nephews and a few great greats.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hastings and Floley McElhaney, husband; Earl Smith, brother; Wendell McElhaney, sisters; Virginia McElhaney, Gertrude Knox (Joe), Mattie Ann Teal, daughter in law, Diana.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2024 from 12-2pm with a service to follow at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 1102 Churchill Rd. Mahomet, IL. 61853. Geneva will be interred at Riverside Cemetery in Mahomet.
