Catlin Gene T. Martin, 93, of Catlin passed away on February 5, 2022 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL at 11:30 AM.
Gene was born at home of his parents Bert and Lucretia (Warrick) Martin on May 13, 1928 in Catlin, IL. He married Iris L. Collom on January 27, 1961 in Catlin, IL and she survives.
Survivors include his wife; Iris Martin of Catlin, IL, and special family; John and Freda Switzer and their sons; Dirk (Shelby) Switzer and Jay (special friend, Leah) Switzer.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Frank, Harlan and Clarence Martin, one sister; Florence (Huluska) Weber and several nieces and nephews.
Gene graduated from Catlin High School in 1948. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army and served overseas during the Korean War. Gene was a Telegrapher and Freight Agent for the N&W Railroad for over 43 years and retired in 1991. Gene became a member of the Catlin United Methodist Church in 1996 where he was active in helping maintain the church and other activities. Gene and his wife were life members of the Catlin Historical Museum where they maintained the flower gardens and Gene helped restore the museum. He was a Life Member of the Catlin Masonic Lodge where he was a Past Master and a former member of the Catlin Davis Busby American Legion Post.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Catlin United Methodist Church, 106 W Vermilion Street, Catlin, Illinois, 61817. Reverend Zach LeCrone will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Catlin, IL with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 1:00 2:00 PM at the Catlin United Methodist Church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
It is kindly requested that those in attendance wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Memorial Contributions in memory of Gene may be made to the Catlin United Methodist Church or the Catlin Historical Museum.
