Savoy - Orville "Gene" Eugene Conn, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born on April 4, 1923 in Urbana, IL to Orville Warren and Edna Mable (Young) Conn. Gene married Evelyn Hazel Cekander on June 17, 1942 in Sadorus, IL, and they were married for 67 years at the time of her passing on September 23, 2011. Gene is survived by his twin daughters Sharon (Koby) Koeberlein and Sheila (Denny) Lincicome; grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Moffitt, Stacy (Jerry Edge) Lincicome, and Chad (Jodie) Lincicome; great-grandchildren Olivia, Lauren, and Moxie. He was drafted on January 19, 1943 after graduating from Urbana High School at the age of 18. He landed on the beaches of Normandy and was a scout making sure the area was clear so the platoon could move forward. Upon returning home, he worked as a school bus driver for the Urbana School District and was a custodian at Delmont Court for 10 years. He later was a bulk fuel oil driver for Standard Oil for 21 years. Before retiring, he worked as a propane driver for fertilizer companies around the area. Gene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Gene and Evelyn retired and spent winters in Estero Florida where they enjoyed the beach, warm weather, fishing, and visiting with friends for over 20 years. Sharon and Sheila would like to thank the entire staff of Home Care Solutions for their dedicated care and kindness provided to their father these last few years. They would also like to thank Carle Hospital for their compassion during this trying time. Gene will be greatly missed. Cremation arrangements have been made through Sunset Funeral Home at 710 N. Neil Street, Champaign, IL. A private graveside committal will be held at Sadorus Craw Cemetery. Gene and Evelyn's cremated remains will be joined and they will be together again.
