Gene Autry Brownfield

Gene Autry Brownfield, 80, of Paris, IL, passed away at 11:21am, Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at his home. He was born on April 26, 1942, in Chicago Heights, IL, the son of Charles and Francis {Adams} Brownfield. He was united in marriage to Lydia Jayne Miller on May 6, 1989, until her passing on January 25, 2020. Gene will be dearly missed by his children, Daniel (Sabrina) Lyle & Pam Pammy (Jerry) Yockey; his grandchildren, Bailey Lyle, Brandi (Kyle) Newell, Jamie Yockey, Heather (Shane) Sallee, Tiffani (Jordan) Sterling, Holly (Kris) Butler, & Kaycee Yockey; his great grandchildren, Pierce Peanut Case, Katelyn Newell, Dakota Newell, Jayden Newell, Jameson Sallee, Kohen Sterling, Kellin Butler, Hayden Butler, Emorie Yockey; his sister, Linda Brownfield; his nieces, Erin & Mary Burnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jayne; his great grandson, Daymian Newell; and his beloved dog, King, who received 7 purple hearts. Gene was a proud Veteran of the US Army and served 1961 to 1971. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked as a truck driver during his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling, and doing puzzles. He also enjoyed listening to music and watching Westerns. He was a football fan and loved the University of Kentucky Basketball, as well as an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan. He will be dearly remembered by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Genes life will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846 with John Ellis officiating. Visitation will be held 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Tuesday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Pilot Grove Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post 211, Paris, IL. Memorial donations may be given in Genes name to Wounded Warriors.
