GEORGETOWN - Gayle Hubert Tuck Cravens, 78, a well-known resident of Georgetown, died at 5:30am, Friday, October 20th, 2006, at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL. He was born June 3rd, 1928, in Ogden, IL, the son of Henry Harvey and Delpha Ellen (Adams) Cravens. He was united in marriage to Doris Joan Moore on December 21st, 1952, in Georgetown, IL. After 45 years of marriage, Doris passed away on March 30th, 1998. Gayle and his twin brother, Dale, entered the US Navy on June 11th, 1946. While serving, he earned the World War II Victory Medal. On the 28th of April in 1948, Tuck gained an honorable discharge and began a 40 year career as a locomotive engineer for the New York Central, Penn Central and Consolidated Rail Corporation Railroads. He finally retired in 1986. He was a devoted member to the United Methodist Church of Georgetown, Russell Masonic Lodge #154, Ogden Masonic Lodge #754, Danville Scottish Rite, and the Dornblazer American Legion Post #203, where he was currently an officer. Tuck received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America because of his many years of dedicated service, the Mason of the Year Award from Russell Lodge #154 in 1985, Mason of the Year Award from Danville Scottish Rite in 1995, and the prestigious Meritorious Service Award in 2004. Those who will miss him include: his two sons, Gayle Michael (Sandy) Cravens of Henderson, TN, and Warren Kent Cravens of Carmel, IN; his five grandchildren, Amanda, Kim, James, Natalie, and Nicole; his great grandchild, Kylee; his three sisters, Clara Snipp of Torrence, CA, Phyllis Finney of Melbourne, FL, and Joy Morrison of Georgetown. His parents and nine brothers & sisters preceded him in death. A celebration of Tucks life will be held at 10:00am on Monday, October 23rd, 2006, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home at 200 E West Street in Georgetown, IL. Pastor Raymond Gordon and Ray Sharp will officiate. Visitation will be 2-6pm at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at 5:30pm. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Memorial donations in Tucks name may be given to donors choice.
