Gary W Johnson

Danville - Gary W. Johnson, 74, of Danville, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his home. He was born on January 27, 1949 to Garfield and Norma Jean (Hicks) Johnson in Danville, IL.

He is survived by his grandsons, David Osterbur-Pratt, Devin Pratt, Dillon Pratt, and Dalton Pratt, as well as his great-grandchildren, Aspen, Hadley, and Ember Pratt. Gary is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tosha Cook; his brothers, Jack Johnson and Michael Johnson Sr; and his beloved dog, Bobo.

Gary served his country in the Marines during a tour in Vietnam, enlisting while he was still in college on a baseball scholarship. Later, he was in the 59 Band where he sang and played a Fender Stratocaster. Gary even received his own special color guitar from Fender. He got the opportunity to play alongside Jerry Lee Lewis and REO Speedwagon.

Gary will be laid to rest with military honors in Danville National Cemetery at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61834.
