Gary Thomas

Gary Lee Thomas, 63, of Danville passed away on June 2, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Gary was born on March 12, 1948 in Danville, Illinois son of Albert Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Sands) Thomas. He married Shirley May Rahm on December 8, 1967. She survives along with ten children: Terry (Hayley) Mikel, Jim Mikel, Ellen Thomas, Melissa Mikel, Gary Thomas II, John (Dawn) Mikel, Gene Thomas, Tony (Amy) Thomas, Nichole Thomas, and Phil (Sandy) Rahm; sister Bonnie Johnson; 26 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and several very close friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, son William, and ten siblings. Gary attended Danville Schools and retired from Danville Metal Stamping in 2009. He had worked as a tig welder for 35 years. He was known as a family man and enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, loved nature and was a gourmet cook. Above all else he loved to spend time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Garys Life will be held from 12-2 pm Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL.
