Gary Evan Shaw, 66, of Danville, Illinois passed away on August 2, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana with his family by his side. Gary was born October 7, 1943 in Danville, Illinois son of Chester and Winifred (Hickman) Shaw. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pat (Cox) Shaw; brother Ron (Carol) Shaw; sister Pamela (Shaw) Heath; two daughters: Niki (Rick) Moore, Tracy (Bret) Bluemke, stepson Robert (Julie) Colby, stepdaughter Dawn (Rusty) Alvey; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gary grew up in Danville, Illinois, where he attended Cannon Grade School, East Park Middle School, and Danville High School, were he played football, wrestled, swam, and was in the DHS orchestra. Following high school Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961-1964 and was a member of the 27th Ordinance Company with the rank of SP-4. After being honorably discharged from the Army Gary held several jobs around the Danville area; most recently after 20 years he retired from ESCO. Gary enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf, singing and was an avid reader. He was a member of the American Legion Post #210 and the Sons of the American Legion. A Celebration of Garys Life will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Parks Mausoleum in Danville with Military Honor preformed by the American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #210 and/or the Second Church of Christ. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
