Perrysville, Ind. - Gary Lee Wilcoxen, 54, of rural Perrysville passed away at 6:09 a.m. EST Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.
He was born April 2, 1966 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Richard and Beverly (Spandau) Wilcoxen, who survive.
Gary married Amy Martin on June 14, 2003 in Gessie, Indiana. She survives.
Other survivors include his sister: Valerie (Brian) Jordan of Williamsport, Indiana; brother: Bruce (Kelly) Wilcoxen of Cedarville, Ohio; nieces: Lindsey and Megan Wilcoxen; sister/brother-in-law: Krista (BJ) Witsman of Covington, Indiana; nephews: Chase, Cole and Gage Witsman, and mother-in-law: Shirley Martin of Gessie, Indiana, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and his ThyssenKrupp Machining family.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, father-in-law: Tony Martin, and beloved lab: Charlie Owen.
Gary was a Machine Operator at ThyssenKrupp Machining for the past 25 years. He was a 1984 graduate of North Vermillion High School. Gary enjoyed the quiet country life with his wife, Amy, helping his Dad on the family farm, and lending a hand to surrounding neighbors. He took great pride in his tractor collection, his favorite being Massey Ferguson red. Gary will be remembered for his big heart, dry sense of humor and his laid back country boy demeanor. And, in recent months his incredible strength and bravery. He was, indeed, the true definition of a warrior. He will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him well.
The family wishes to specifically thank Dr. Hamid Sayar and Stacey Dye, RN, of the IU Simon Cancer Center, along with Gary's 3East Angel Nursing Squad, whom he adored. Their phenomenal care and friendships over the past year and a half meant everything to he and Amy.
