Gary Lee 'Briar' Coffing

Garry Lee Briar Coffing, age 55, of Danville passed away at 2:18 P.M., Thursday November 5, 2008 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born June 9, 1953 in Danville, IL, the son of Oakley F. and Betty Jean (Dartois) Coffing. Garry married the love of his life, Joyce A (McNeese) Coffing on October 5, 1973 in Danville, IL. Garry and Joyce recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. He leaves Joyce to cherish his memory as well as his brother Larry Coffing of Missouri, his nephew Chris McNeese, great nephews Christopher and Alex McNeese, great niece, Brianna McNeese, Shane and Dustin Coffing, brother-in-law Mike (Kay) McNeese. Garry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Alfred and Helen Dartois; parents-in-law, Sam and Betty McNeese, sister-in-law, Linda McNeese; and best friend, Charlie Porter. Garry was a glass worker by profession and later worked for the Danville Napa Store. His pride and joy was his Harley Davidson motorcycle and he cherished the time he and Joyce spent riding many years together. They had traveled all over the United States together during the course of their marriage. His hobbies also included hunting, fishing, street rods, and driving their Mazda Miati on weekend trips. He spent many wonderful hours with his beloved dog, Harley Davidson, who was his constant companion and protector. Garry never met a stranger, always had a warm smile and was a good friend to many, always eager to help others but never expected help in return. A celebration of the life of Garry Coffing will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, November 10, 2008, at Sunsets Community & Life Tribune Center 3550 N. Vermilion Street (formerly Lakeside-Barrick) with Buddy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at Sunsets Community & Life Tribute Center Memorials may be made in Garrys name to the American Cancer Society or the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
