Gary 'Homer' Shaffer

Gary "Homer" Shaffer 71, of Melvin, IL passed away at Carle Hospital in Urbana on November 3, 2018. Gary, known to his friends as "Fearless" was born on March 18, 1947 in Champaign IL the son of Paul and Barbara Shaffer they precede him in death. He is survived by his daughter; Connie Shaffer of Rantoul, son;Larry Shaffer, sisters; Diane Daughtery of Frisco Texas, Lisa Auterson (Dale) of Paxton IL. brother; Terry (Jackie) Shaffer of Holiday FL. several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gary loved the outdoors, he enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening, bonfires, shooting and target practice. He was an avid pool player, coin collector, and member of The American Legion post 510. Gary proudly served in the United States Army fighting in the Vietnam War. He was employed for 35 years at Hydro-Fold Auger where he was a mig welder and shop foreman. Gary's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Niewold family for their kindness and support. There are no services set for Gary at this time.
