Danville, IL – Garry L. Swaney, 68, of Williamsport, IN, passed away at 7:01 AM on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport. He was born on January 26, 1958, in Danville to Norman “Gene” and Betty (Daniels) Swaney. He married Kim Weaver on April 9, 1977, in Catlin. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Hillary (Jason) Brier of Attica, and Heather (Robert) Jones of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Gage (Sadie Osborn) Swaney, Gatlin (Makenzie Martin) Swaney, Easton Brier, Gwyndelyn Henk, and Sloan Brier; two siblings, Dan (Jane) Swaney and Vickie Earles; a brother-in-law, Robert Weaver; and his beloved dog, Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his mother and father-in-law, James and Genell Weaver.
Garry worked as the Production Director for the Commercial-News when it was based in Danville. However, many may remember him as the lead singer and the “Voice of Gold” in his band, High Sierra. Garry loved music and displayed his talents not only with his voice but was also a talented guitar player and drummer. He particularly enjoyed country, rock, and bluegrass music. Garry was also an avid sports fan, especially when it came to cheering on the Bears and the Cubs. Most of all, Garry was a devoted family man and cherished the time he was able to spend with his kids and grandkids. He will be dearly missed by them all.
Garry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and all the dear friends he made at Danville Dialysis.
A private graveside service for Garry Swaney will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville where he will be laid to rest. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorials in his name may be made to the Williams Chapel at 6031 S. 875 West Rd., Williamsport, IN 47993 or to Danville Dialysis Services Foundation 910 Clay St. Danville Il, 61832.
