Garnet Stones

Garnet Stones, 94 of Westville, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 4:50 PM at Hawthorne Inn Nursing Home in Danville. She was born October 23, 1921 in Westville, the daughter of Austin T. and Hattie (Wilson) Bishop. She lived in the same house in town since 1936. On July 8, 1950 she married Henry Stones in Covington, IN. He preceded her in death in 1982. Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Willett Bishop, Jr. of Champaign, John (Ann) Blakeney of Oakwood, Janice Barker of Westville, Linda Stine of Westville, Betty Sleva of Hegeler, Robert (Carol) Blakeney of Westville, Pamela Arnold of Lafayette, Greg (Kathleen) Marriage of Hegeler, Kathi Watson of St. Joseph, and Tamara Lourdeau of St. Joseph, as well as many other great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Henry; sisters, Violet Blakeney, Ethel Bishop, Janet Gill, and Mabel Marriage; brothers, Willett, Emmett, and John Bishop; and nephew, Terry Bishop. Garnet was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Westville, the Danville Women's Moose Lodge, AARP, the First Pace Setters, Illiana Organiers, and the American Legion Post #51 Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering her time at Presence USMC and with the Red Cross. Garnet worked at Sunbeam doing factory work in Westville. She liked to read and go on tours. She was a very active lady and will be missed by her friends and family. A Celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville. Pastor David Robberts-Mosser will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Sandusky Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Sandusky Cemetery.
