Garnet Miller,86, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 5, 2026. He was born on August 24, 1939, in Cayuga, Indiana, to Orville and Ethel (Van Camp) Miller.
Garnet dedicated over 32 years of his career to General Motors before retiring. He was an active member of his community, dedicating more than ten years to the Mc Kendree Township Cemetery board, where he contributed his time and efforts to maintaining the resting place of many.
A proud veteran, Garnet honorably served in the United States Army, demonstrating the values of duty and commitment that he lived by.
Garnet's warm personality brought joy to everyone around him. He had a constant smile on his face, a testament to his positive outlook on life. He shared a special bond with his wife, Karen (Parmantier) Miller; together they loved to explore plays and dine at various eateries, creating countless cherished memories.
His family was always of utmost importance to him. He is survived by his loving wife Karen, son Gary Miller, his beloved daughter-in-law Jennifer Miller, and cherished grandson Cody Miller. Garnet is also survived by his sister, Pauline Zelma Smith. He was predeceased by his parents, Orville and Ethel Miller, along with one brother and two sisters.
Garnet enjoyed simple pleasures in life, from mowing the lawn to playing cards and driving his vintage John Deere tractor. He was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where he found community and fellowship.
A Celebration of Garnet's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday February 10, 2026, at the Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center's Urbas Chapel located at 414 S State St, Westville, IL 61883. Matt Filisky will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home 1-3pm prior to the service.
