Danville - Garlin M. Gossar, 59, of Danville, passed away on April 17, 2014. He was born January 19, 1955 in Danville, IL the son of Garlin and Vernice (Dalton) Gossar. He is survived by his brothers Gary and Kevin of Danville, Barry (Teresa) of Westville, Mike (Angie) of Seymour, IN; his sisters, Leona Halstead of Danville, Carrie Ping of Perrysville, IN and Janice (Bud) Johnson of Lodi, IN; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; friends Jack and Pam Hardy, Ray and Janet Ragle and many many more. He was preceded in death by his parents Garlin and Vernice Gossar; his brother William (Bill) Gossar; his sister, Judith “Judy” Snow; and brothers-in-law Raymond Halstead and John Snow; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Garlin graduated from Danville High School in 1973. He had been employed at Central State Distributing for many years as a fork lift operator. He was a member of Hooton Church of Christ and attended South Side Church of Christ. He liked sports especially any that any family member were in; he went to a lot of their games. He was a Jeff Gordon fan and liked watching NASCAR. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan, as well as a Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed gardening and giving produce to his family and friends; he even would can some of his own vegetables. He also found joy in helping people. Garlin was known as the Candy Man at church. He started his ministry several years ago in memory of a dear friend, Luke Kinney. At the close of a worship service he would be standing at the door with a grin on his face holding his tote of various candy bars. If he knew you liked a special kind he would do his very best to get it for you; and if he wasnt there he would find someone to do this for him. Above all else, Garlin loved his family and he will be sorely missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him A celebration of Garlins life will be held at 10am on Monday April 21, 2014 at The South Side Church of Christ with Evangelist, Kevin Ziegler officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday April 20, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and cremation center, A life celebration home in Danville from 4pm to 8pm. Memorial donations may be made in Garlins name to The South Side Church of Christ.
