G. Michael Smith

G. Michael Smith passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospice Facility in Akron, OH. He was born on February 24, 1953 the son of Betty and Gerald Smith in Wilmington, NC.

His parents precede him in death as well as his sister, Vickie Smith.

Mike is survived by his wife, Beth Wasson-Smith; stepfather, Hank Walsh; stepchildren, Brandon Wasson, Blake (Julianne Marron) Wasson, Bethany Wasson, Brittani Molina, and Kayla Youngblood; grandchildren, Taygen Wasson, Kaynen Wasson, Ryleigh Buck, and Easton Buck; and siblings, Debbie (Steve) Todd, Craig (Maggie) Smith, Keri (Jeff) Stepp, Kim (Chris) Webber, Steve (Judy) Walsh, Vickie (Rick) Spidle, and Sharon (Steve) Forth.

Mike was a devoted husband and a beloved "bonus" dad and Papaw. He was happiest surrounded by family and friends and never missed an opportunity to spend time with those he loved. He worked at Iroquois Federal for 23.5 years where he was a valued employee. Mike had a passion for golf and was a loyal member of Turtle Run Golf Club, where he was affectionately referred to as Chick. He was also an avid bowler in the months he couldnt be on the golf course. Mike was loved by all who met him a testament to his kind, generous, and caring personality. He had an easy-going demeanor and lively sense of humor that never faltered, even in the toughest of times. He was the epitome of strength, resilience, and courage, living every moment to its fullest. He positively impacted the life of every person he encountered and will be deeply missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Turtle Run Golf Club, 332 E Liberty Ln, Danville, Il 61832.
