G. Dean Covington

G. Dean Covington passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018, at his home in Oakwood. Dean was born in Muhlenberg County, KY on November 27, 1940 to James H. and Juanita (Fuller) Covington. Dean moved to Illinois at an early age, attended school in Danville and Fairmount, IL. He graduated from Jamaica High School in 1958. He was also a graduate of Danville Junior College and attended Eastern Illinois University. On February 23, 1963 he married Connie Fletcher in Charleston, IL. She survives. Also surviving are four children Leslie (Michael) Pouilliard, Lori (Dave) Parker, and Kristen (Eldon) Hayn, all of Oakwood, IL, and John (Heather) Covington of rural Fithian, IL. Eleven grandchildren, Erin (Bryan) Mooney, Mitchell Pouilliard, Ryan Parker, Trent Parker, Molly Parker, Christopher Johnson, Abby Johnson, Bo Hayn, Alexandra Rodriguez, Lauren Covington and Allie Covington. One great grandchild, Owen Johnson. Two brothers, Leamon (Lois) Covington of Hot Springs Village, AK and Doug (Marilyn) Covington of Fairmount, IL. And his best friend Jackson'. He was preceded in death his parents and his brother in-law and golf buddy Tom Fletcher. Dean retired from General Motors Central Foundry in Tilton in 1991 and later worked for Chem-Cast in Danville. He served on the board of the American Foundrymen's Society and served 11 years on the Oakwood Unit 76 Board of Education. He was one of the founding members of the Oakwood Men's Club. Dean was an avid golfer but most of all he was a good father to his children, a good papaw to his grandchildren and a good husband to his wife. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Pastor Leland Legg. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery in Newtown, IL. Visitation will be held the evening prior on Monday, September 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
