Lodi, Ind. -- Freida Ruth "Granny" Grubbs, 89, formerly of Lodi and Covington, Indiana and a resident the past 1 1/2 years at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville, Illinois, passed away at 7:43 p.m. CDT Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. She was born January 10, 1920 in Waynetown, Indiana, the daughter of the late Claude A. and Ruby Anna Goddard Marshall. She married Philip Harold Grubbs on March 3, 1939 in Newport, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1997. Survivors include one son, Harold Richard(Ima Jean)Grubbs of Covington, Indiana; three grandchildren, Vicki Grubbs Hartman; Steve(Eileen)Grubbs and Randy(Hope)Grubbs; seven great grandchildren, Josh, Kylie and Ashley Hartman; Jesse Grubbs and Kasie Bennett; Riannon and Jade Grubbs; one great great grandson, Cole James Vasquez; step sister, Arlene Wilkins of Kokomo, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepmother; one grandson, James H. Grubbs and three brothers, Fred, Paul and Warren Marshall. Freida formerly worked at the DuPont Ammunition Plant in Newport, Indiana. She was a 1938 graduate of Tangier High School. Freida was a member of the Christian Union Church north of Perrysville, Indiana. She enjoyed wintering in Texas, boating and camping at Raccoon Lake, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Friday, September 11, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Grover Williams; Burial: Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the funeral home. Family request contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.
