Freda Mroz

Freda Mroz, 79, of Danville passed away at 6:52 PM on August 14, 2024 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, IL.

Freda was born in Germany on November 12, 1944 the daughter of Teodor and Aniela (Grabarczyk) Baran. She married Daniel Mroz on June 15, 1963 in Chicago, IL and he preceded her in death on March 22, 2001.

Survivors include her children, Renee (Tyke Askins) Mroz of Danville, IL, Steve (Maggie) Mroz of Geneseo, IL, Lisa Mroz of Fort Gay, WV, and Denine Mroz of Hanover, IN, six grandchildren, Kyra Davis, Keith (Amanda) Davis, Kyle Davis, Mary Kate Mroz, Joe Mroz and Beth Mroz, two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Taylor Thompson, one great niece, Kirstin Cook and a great nephew, Danny Cook, as well as one sister, Mary Rzepka of Elmwood Park, IL, nieces, Tammy Grabarczyk, Amy Kristiene Terry and Amanda Rzepka and nephew, Nicholas Rzepka.

Freda is preceded in death by her parents Aniela and Teodor, husband, Daniel, sister, Teresa Rubio and brother and best friend, Bogdan Grabarczyk.

Freda was proud to be a citizen of the United States after having come to America from Rengeslager Germany in January 1957 and earning her certificate of naturalization in January 1971.

Freda was a member of St Paul’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending her free time bargain shopping, gardening, playing Solitaire, watching Hallmark Movies and cheering for her Chicago Bears. In her younger years she was an avid seamstress and loved to crochet, making many of the outfits that her children wore in family photos. Her “Gheema hugs” were legendary and will be missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at St Paul’s Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street, Danville, Illinois 61832. Father John Cyr will officiate. Burial will be in Maryhill Catholic Cemetery in Niles, IL at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the church.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Freda’s memory to St. Paul’s Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
