Fred VanVolkenburg of Danville passed away on April 2, 2007 at the Danville VA Hospital. Fred was born May 21, 1918 in Danville son of Fred and Bessie R. Frankenburger Van Volkenburg. He married Betty Lou Mascari on February 2, 1969 in Danville. She preceded him in July of 2001. Survivors include: sons: Mike (Karla) Story of Danville, Tom (Phyllis) Story of Arizona, Robert (Marie) Van Volkenburg of College Station, TX, and William (Susan) Van Volkenburg of Corpus Christi, TX; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Brother: Hobart (Betty) Van Volkenburg of Gulf Shores, AL; sisters: Bessie Ruth Smith, Audrey Swain, and Barbara Van Volkenburg all of Danville. Special friends Pat Anders, Terry & Betty Johnson, and Don Thomas. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brother and two sisters. Fred was a graduate of Danville High School and served as a Sergeant for 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. serving in WWII and the Korean War receiving the Purple Heart; and later worked as a driver for Greyhound and as a truck driver for 14 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling and loved his dog. He was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church in Danville. A Celebration of Freds Life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday April 4, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park with Military Honors preformed by VFW post #728
