FREDERICK FRED VERLIN MCCOY Frederick Fred Po Verlin McCoy, 90, of Danville, passed away at 12:54 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Fred was born on April 4, 1919, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Monroe G. and Garnet E. (Gregory) McCoy. He married Bernice Huffman on June 2, 1946 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by daughter- Beckie Heck and granddaughter- Stephanie Jane Heck of Toledo, Ohio; son- Allan McCoy and grandson- Dale Frederick Monroe McCoy of Danville; two sisters- Clara Pearson and daughter- Jodie (Dale) Perry of Ironton, Ohio and Linda (Phil)Lambert of Ironton, Ohio; niece- Lisa (Dean) Dillon of Melvin, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Fred graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1940 to 1945. Fred worked as an insurance agent for 10 years at Floyd Butler Insurance Agency. He also worked at the VA Hospital for 23 years until he retired in 1979. Fred was a very active member at Second Church of Christ. He was involved in the Oasis Bible Study, communion server and he also delivered new membership packets and cookies to first time attendees. Fred was a deacon and treasurer at Second Church of Christ when it was previously located on Bowman Avenue. He was previously a member at Northland Christian Church and served as a deacon. Fred volunteered at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village and always dressed up for Halloween and Christmas. He was treasurer with his wife at the Vermilion County Church of Christ Society and also served tea at Hanging Rock Christian Assembly at Good Times. Fred enjoyed serving guests on his pontoon boat, at Indian Springs, Leasure Time Estates, and also at his home. A Celebration of the Life of Frederick Fred Verlin McCoy will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Second Church of Christ in Danville, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Second Church of Christ Building Fund.
