Frank Switzer, of Danville, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, July 19th, 2012 at his home. He was born on November 9th, 1921, in Danville, the son of Stanley and Grace (Fowler) Switzer. He married Sylvia Forbeck in June of 1985. She survives. He is also survived by two step-sons- Steve (Sue) McFarland of Carmel, Indiana and Greg McFarland of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren in Carmel, Indiana; and a brother-Alan (Betty Jo) Switzer of Covington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter- Janice Lynn Switzer. Frank graduated from Covington High School and attended Purdue University. He served as an officer in World War II and the Korean War. In the last battle of World War II, Okinawa, he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Before returning to the U.S. he served as an adjutant in the Philippine Army. During the Korean War, he served in Korea as an Economics Officer with the United Nations Civil Assistance Command. Frank co-operated a farming partnership in Indiana for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was President of the Warren County Farm Bureau for several years, a member of the Stateline Methodist Church, a life member of the American Legion and Korean War Veterans, and a former member of B.P.O.E. #332 and the Danville Country Club. He enjoyed traveling and had traveled in more than 65 countries on 5 continents. A Celebration of the life of Frank Switzer will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 23rd, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Danville National Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #210.
