Dr. Frank L. Lesko of Champaign died at the young age of 97 at 5:07 am on August 15, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital. There will be no visitation. Friends may greet family at the church funeral mass at St. Matthew Catholic Church at 10:00am on Friday, August 18, 2017. Arrangements by Sunset Funeral Home. Son of Catherine Orsz Lesko and Joe Lesko. Born May 8, 1920 in Westville, Il. Husband of Dorothy A. Lesko. Four children Christopher Lesko, KY, Karol Alvarez, CA, Kim Lesko, FL and Jill Burnett, GA. Two step-daughters Cheryl Farrar, TX and Deborah Martz, IL. Five grandchildren, four step grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one step great grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, a son Frank Jr. and two step children Jeffrey and David Smith. Dr. Lesko received a Bachelor of Arts from Milliken University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois Medical School. Was in family practice in Danville. Residency in Radiology at Indiana University Medical Center from 1955-1958. After his residency, he was a Radiologist at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, from 1958-1960. Dr. Lesko was President and Medical director of Champaign Radiology Associate, Inc., and Midwest Nuclear Inc. providing radiology services to Cole, Tuscola, Paxton, Gibson City, Fairbury, Hoopeston and Chanute Air Force Base hospitals. Dr. Lesko held the following appointments: Clinical Associate at the University of Illinois Medical School, Consultant to the Dept. of Radiology at the V.A. hospital, Danville, lecturer for the University of Illinois Speech and Hearing depts.. and consultant in Radiology to the University of Illinois Veterinarian School. Dr. Lesko was a member of the American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, Illinois Radiology Society, Indiana Roentgen Society, Fellow American College of Angiology and the Radiological Society of North America. Dr. Lesko served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. in World War II and the Korean War. Received a letter of Commendation from the Commanding General, Far East Command, for a part Dr. Lesko played in the evacuation of a airman after he was seriously injured in a fall down the slope of Mt. Fuji, Japan. Was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and was the first Eagle Scout in Westville. Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #754, Danville, Il, and a parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Champaign, received "Wall of Fame" award from Westville High School for lifetime achievements, 2013. Dr. Lesko enjoyed golfing, tennis, fishing, U of I sports, gardening and reading. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Wounded Warrior
