WESTVILLE - Frank J. Konsis, 82, of Westville, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Hawthorne Inn Nursing Home, Danville, IL. Frank was born in Westville on May 16, 1925, the son of Frank and Lucille (Sharkey) Konsis, also of Westville. He was a graduate of Westville High School and was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and track. He received the Sportsman of the Year Award from Westville High School in 1943. Frank married Regina Stefaniak on June 21, 1947 at St. Peter and Pauls Catholic Church in Westville. She preceded him in death in March of 2002. Frank is survived by his son Ken (Lorna) Konsis of Westville; his daughter Jan (Joey) Thomas of Tilton, and his three grandchildren, Kristen (Lee) Arnold of Brownsburg, Indiana, Joe Thomas of Muncie, Indiana, and Briana Thomas of Tilton. Frank was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Westville and retired from Illinois Power Company. He served our country with the Marine Corps and was involved in the battle of Iwo Jima. Frank was a life member of American Legion Post 51 in Westville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. There are also numerous memories of family camping trips, especially at the Fairmount Quarry. Until recently, Frank was an active member of the Vermilion County Conservation Districts Volunteer Corps, assisting with the Maple Syrup Dinner, serving as a host at buildings, and working the Haunted Happenings event. He also was a volunteer at Lake Vermilion and helped with the monitoring of fish. A funeral Mass for Frank is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Westville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 " 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel at 414 S. State St. in Westville. Final resting place will be St. Peter and Pauls Cemetery, also in Westville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Franks name to the St. Mary Foundation or the Vermilion County Conservation District Foundation.
