Kingman, Ind. - Frank C. "Poppy" Whittington, 73, of rural Kingman, passed away at 1:10 a.m. EDT Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at his residence. Frank was born May 23, 1942 in Kingman, Indiana the son of the late Fuson Christy and Irene (Samuels) Whittington. Frank married Marilyn Gebhart on September 26, 1964 at the Eugene United Methodist Church in Eugene, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Jory (Sheri) Whittington of Kingman, Indiana and Laura (Jesse) Miser of Emporia, Kansas; 16 foster children that Frank and his wife raised; two grandchildren; two sisters, Anne (Gary) Pitman of Waveland, Indiana and Jan (William) Ludlow of Bloomington, Indiana; five brothers; Gerald (Roberta) Whittington and Joe Paul (Janet) Whittington both of Kingman, Indiana; John (Vicki) Whittington of Crawfordsville, Indiana; Max (Lora) Whittington and Rex (Robin) Whittington both of Kingman, Indiana; sister-in-law, Tina Cox of Rockville, Indiana; special friend, Scott Kiger of Kingman, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Linker and brother, Tom Whittington. Frank was a union carpenter and superintendent for White's Construction in Clinton, Indiana for several years. A 1960 graduate of Kingman High School, Frank served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of the Eugene United Methodist Church and a former member of the Cayuga American Legion Post #263. Frank enjoyed mushrooming, fishing, restoring and collecting antique tractors, gardening and raising flowers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. EDT at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana with military rites following visitation. There will be no services. Family request contributions to the Cayuga American Legion Post #263, 922 West Ferry Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928 or to the Eugene United Methodist Church, 5227 North Water Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928.
