Danville - Francis Hathaway, 91, of Danville, passed away on November 11, 2013 in the comfort of his own home. He was born on April 9, 1922 in Danville. The son of Ora Otis and Virgie (Holycross) Hathaway. He was originally married to Iris Morris, Iris passed away in 1965. He was re-married to Gladys Miller on March 4, 1967; Gladys preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by his son Jerry (Stephanie) Hathaway, and his sister Shirley (Don) Gibson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Russell, and his sister Opal. Francis was an outdoorsman; he loved to be outside either raking leaves or mowing his lawn. Francis did not only do his yard work but he would often help others with their lawn too. Francis simply loved helping people, he was also known for hauling coal to warm peoples houses in the winter. He was the caretaker for many years at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Westville.He was a member of Danville United Church of Christ. Francis was also involved in the Oaklawn improvement and preservation neighborhood community. He was an avid stock-car racing fan; he would often watch his son Jerry race. Francis was a WWII veteran he served in northern France and other regions of Europe during the war. Francis was also a hard worker he worked at Coffing-Hoist as an inspector for 13 years, after that he worked for many years at Elton Wagner Construction he enjoyed construction work so much that after working there he worked for Schomburg and Schomburg Construction. Francis will be sorely missed by his family, and anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him A celebration of Franciss life will be held at 10:00am on Friday November 15, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with pastor Susan Shanks officiating. A visitation will be held from 9am-10am on Friday November 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
