Frances Jones

Danville- Frances Zelia Jones, 95, of Danville passed away at 2:47 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the home of Rand and Glenda Campbell. Frances was born in San Francisco, CA, on December 10, 1915 while her family were photographers at the Worlds Fair. She was the daughter of Alfred and Frances Spickard Delvallee and the sister of Norma Goings, all of Terre Haute, Indiana. Her parents preceded her in death many years ago. She is survived by her sister. Frances was a lifelong resident of the Danville area and a 1933 graduate of Danville High School. She and her husband, Glenn, owned and operated The Nook restaurant in downtown Danville for many years. She was also a licensed beautician and practiced that craft at various points during her life. Following her retirement from the familys business, she devoted the many remaining years of her life to her church (St. James United Methodist), her church circle, her many friends and neighbors, and especially her family. Frances had three daughters-Glenda (Rand) Campbell of Danville, Pamela (Richard) Bush of Bethalto, Illinois, and Lisa Hawkins of Westfield, Indiana. In addition she was blessed with six dearly beloved grandchildren-Kristen (Gabriel) Grant, Korie (Chris) Campbell-Stanley, Caleb (Liz) Bush, Seth (Kristin) Bush, Sarah (Dave) Thomas, and Hannah Bush; and more recently with her two beautiful and special great-grandchildren, Zelia Bush (three months old) and Jonah Bush (two years old this week). Frances belonged to the Danville chapter of Eastern Star. She loved gardening, tending to her many flowers, traveling throughout the United States and to far-off places such as Australia, her annual fishing trips to the Campbell lake cabin on the Canada-Minnesota border, and in later years the annual trip to Boca Grande, Florida she took with her three daughters. Of Frances, the very best that can be said is how deeply devoted she was to her hometown, to her church as the center of her deep faith and as host to many family weddings and baptisms, and especially to her family. She was loved not only by her family, but also by many others for whom she served as friend and mother. Each of these together defined her long and fruitful life and the lasting legacy left through them. She lived her life with great joy and great faith. She will be remembered fondly and celebrated fully at a visitation on Friday, December 17, from 4-7 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville. The memorial service for Frances will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 18 in the sanctuary of St. James United Methodist in Danville with Pastor Ken Cox officiating. Interment will follow for family and friends at Sunset Memorial Park. In her honor, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to St. James United Methodist Church of the Oncology Center at Provena Health Care, both in Danville. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
