Floyd J. White

Our Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, Floyd James White, of Covington, Indiana took his first breath of Heaven at 5:01pm on December 14, 2025. He was a 4 ½ year resident at Fountain Springs where he was the puzzle-master. Just about a month shy of celebrating his 96th birthday, Floyd was born on January 18,1930, in a house somewhere in Catlin, Illinois to the late Zelma (Cook) and Herman White. He couldn’t really remember where. He was raised in Catlin and graduated from Catlin High School in 1949. He was the last surviving member of his class.

Floyd was an all-around athlete in high school, lettering all 4 years in each sport he participated in…football, basketball, and track. In August of 1952, he married Beverley Jean France, and they spent their first year of marriage at Lincoln Bible Institute (aka Lincoln Christian College) in Lincoln, IL where Beverley learned that rice doubles when you cook it. Dad ate rice for a week after she cooked it in their 32-foot trailer and never complained. They then moved back to Catlin and became proud parents by adopting Pam in 1955 and Danny in 1963. They moved to Covington in 1977. Their marriage lasted an amazing 65 years until Mom’s graduation to Heaven in 2018.

Floyd was a dedicated worker for 37 ½ years at Olin/Flexel before his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Catlin Church of Christ for over 22 years and served as an elder, youth sponsor, and a Jr. Boys Sunday School teacher. He was a current member of the First Church of Christ in Covington. He looked forward to any opportunity to get his family gathered around a table to play a game of Euchre or Pinochle and was known for his love of fishing. He was also an avid sports enthusiast and could usually be seen in his Cubs or Colts gear. While residing at Fountain Springs, he really took an interest in putting puzzles together, especially with his puzzle pal, Carol McCarthy.

Floyd is survived by his children Pam (Tim) Field and Danny (Camilla) White; grandchildren Alexandria (James) Brisco, Samantha (Micah) Chappell, James Andrew (Ashley) White, and Ryan Messer; as well as great-grandchildren Sophia & Graham Brisco, Nolan Chappell, and Jameson & Harper White.

In addition to his parents and wife, Floyd was preceded in death by his siblings: Lloyd White, Janetta Johnson, and Erma Chiaramello.

Pam and Danny would like to thank all of the staff at Fountain Springs for their friendship and care they have given Dad these past few years. You made his life so much more enjoyable!

Visitation will be held this Friday, December 19, 2025 from 1:00-2:00pm EST at Sunset Funeral Home's Covington Chapel. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2:00pm EST.
