Floyd 'Jay' Shanks

Floyd Jay Shanks, 43, of Danville, passed away at 1:48 p.m. on Friday March 17, 2006 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Jay was born on August 17, 1962 in Tuscola, Illinois, the son of Gerald and Alice (Wilhelm) Shanks. He married Penny Handley on May 30, 1997 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by his wife- Penny Shanks of Danville; mother- Alice Fife of Villa Grove; one son- Floyd Jay Shanks II of Danville; one daughter- Amanda Jo Shanks of Belgium, Illinois; two step-sons- David (Amanda) Pruitt and Tony Lee Mincey both of Danville; three brothers- Jim (Teresa) Shanks of Villa Grove, Jason (Erica) Shanks of Tuscola, and John (Lanan) Shanks of Villa Grove; two sisters- Tammy (Ray) Southern and Terry (Charlie) Cravens both of Villa Grove; one grandmother- Geneva Wilhelm of Tuscola; two granddaughters- Cheyenne and Niki Pruitt of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandfather, one uncle, and his paternal grandparents. Jay enjoyed listening to country music, watching wrestling, playing his guitar, and motorcycles. His greatest love was spending time with his two granddaughters. A celebration of the life of Floyd Jay Shanks will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at Springhill Cemetery, with Rev. Phil Jackson officiating. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Floyd Jay Shanks headstone fund.
