Floyd Elwood Martin, 94, of Danville passed away on April 17, 2022 at Accolade Health Care in Danville. He was born on April 24, 1927 in Danville to parents Charles and Elizabeth Martin.
Floyd married Barbara Jean Rambole on December 22, 1946. She preceded in him death on April 29, 1995. He leaves behind children Patricia Ann (Jack) Harper of Florida, Stephen Wayne (Janie) Martin of Cayuga, Indiana, Beverly Jean (Tom) Cidt of Florida, Barbara Jane Pickett of Florida, and Marilyn Sue (Donald) Smith of Oakwood, Illinois. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Floyd was also preceded in death by his son Thomas Dale Martin, his parents, sister Ila Hoshauer, and granddaughter Laura Martin.
Floyd enlisted in the United States Army on July 26, 1945 and proudly served his country until he was discharged on December 5, 1945 at Camp Wolters in Texas.
He held many jobs throughout his lifetime, including that of a farmer and at C & EI Railroad. He also drove a school bus for Wingard School outside of Georgetown and was a route driver for Model Star Laundry. His last job prior to his retirement in 1990 was at Teepak. He was a big animal lover, enjoyed country living, camping, and hunting mushrooms with his children. He never met a stranger a day in his life and was always there with a helping hand.
Floyds family would like to thank Accolade Health Care for the wonderful care given to their dad. They would also like to thank Transitions Hospice, particularly to Amanda, who cared for Floyd during his final hours and the loving care given to the whole family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion St., in Danville. A funeral service celebrating his life will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Spring Hill Cemetery next to Barbara.
