Floyd Darnell Hershberger

Floyd Darnell Hershberger, 89, of Danville, passed away at 2:42 p.m. Monday, March 26th, 2012 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Floyd was born on October 25th, 1922, in Veedersburg, Indiana, the son of Myrd and Maggie May (Darnell) Hershberger. He married Rose Marie Walker on January 15th, 1949, at St. Rose Rectory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She survives. He is also survived by five children- Jenifer (Earl) Lewis of Englewood, Florida, Karen (Rick) Gardner of Monroe, Ohio, John (Helen) Hershberger of Danville, Thomas (Shelley) Hershberger of Winnebago, Illinois and Edward (Sally) Hershberger of Campobello, South Carolina; six grandchildren- Kathryn York Clark, Kristen (Benjamin) Alder Arnold, Joshua Alder, Amy Hershberger, Daniel Hershberger and Meggan Hershberger; one great-grandson- Lane Clark; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Bert Hershberger and Walter Hershberger, and three sisters- Nora Howell, Margaret Newell and Onda Songer. Floyd attended Danville Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941-1945, serving in the Pacific Theater. Floyd worked as a carpenter locally for several years and at the University of Illinois, until he retired. He was a former member of Carpenter Local #235. Floyd enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. A Celebration of the life of Floyd Darnell Hershberger will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29th, 2012 at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, with Father John Paninski officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday at Resurrection Chapel. Entombment will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery with full military rites to be conducted by the American Legion Post #210. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
