The Spirit of Floyd Duane Wilder, 83, peacefully left this earth Sunday, February 26, 2018 at 12:59 AM at his home in Catlin. He was born on February 7, 1935 in Mattoon, IL to Irma Louise Floyd and Richard Wilder. He had two brothers, Richard and Paul and a sister Nancy Cole. They preceded him in death along with a nephew and a great niece. He served in the US Navy from 1952-1956 aboard the Destroyer, the USS Brownson, where he got to see the world and learned his life trade. He married Dolores Ghibaudy in 1956, she survives. Together they raised 6 children; Debra (Dennis) Hall of Kokomo, IN, Carla (Bill) Mofield of O'Fallon, MO, Jeffry (Karen) Wilder of Lewisburg, TN, Lisa (Frank) Nelson of Danville, Jerry (Celeste) Wilder of Oak Forrest, IL and Doug Wilder of Catlin, also his caretaker. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren ranging in age from 47 to 26 years old. Also, 13 great-grandchildren ranging in age from 26 to 6 years old. He sadly leaves behind 5 nephews and 4 nieces, 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wilder of Morris, IL and Emma Lou Dunham of Westville. He earned his living as an electrician working a brief time at Lauhoff's and his remaining 40 years at GM Central Foundry in Tilton, IL, retiring in 1992. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears and the Fighting Illini, attending many games. He enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing and boating. Visitation will be held from 1-3PM Sunday, March 4, 2018, with a memorial service following the visitation at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61834. He will be laid to rest at Danville National Cemetery with a private service with full Military Honors at a later date.
