Cayuga, Ind. -- Floyd A. "Pete" Vandevender, 78, of Cayuga, passed away at 9:43 p.m. CST Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Illinois. He was born April 21, 1932 in Danville, Illinois the son of the late John and Lillian Pribble Vandevender. He married Irma Jean Weir on February 6, 1955 at Lindsey Chapel west of Cayuga. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl(Rick)Murphy of Clinton, Indiana and Dawn Murdock of Perrysville, Indiana; one son, Eric(Carol)Vandevender of Blanford, Indiana; several grandchildren; four sisters, Irene(Gale)Dixon; Kathleen(Russell)Hawn; Esther and Margaret Vandevender all of Cayuga, Indiana; two brothers, Charles(Mary)Vandevender of Cayuga, Indiana and Leroy(Elizabeth)Vandevender of Hudsonville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his infant brother. Pete retired from Olin/Flexel in Covington from the maintenance department. He was a veteran of the United States Army. While in the service he was a M/P stationed at the Panama Canal. Pete was a 1950 graduate of Cayuga High School. He was a member of the Perrysville Unity Lodge #344 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Temple in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a past Master of the Perrysville and former Cayuga Lodges. Pete was a former member of the Cayuga Lions Club. He was a Red Vest Volunteer at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center for many years. Pete enjoyed fishing, camping and watching Colts football. Funeral services: 1 p.m. EST Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Phil Jackson; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, February 23, 2011 until time of services at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, C/O Mrs. J. Fred Banks, 1661 South 5th Street, Clinton, Indiana 47842.
