Florence'Flo' Irene Mcmasters

Florence Irene (Flo) McMasters, 83, of Danville, passed away at 10:05am Friday, February 17, 2012 at Provena USMC in Danville. She was born June 8, 1928, in Sidell, IL, the daughter of Jasper C. and Mae (Archer) Jones. Both are deceased. She married Robert McMasters on April 13, 1986. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2000. Florence is survived by her four nephews, Kenny (Betty) Applegate of Holland Mich., Terry (Pam) Jones of Tilton, IL, John (Doris) Jones of Allerton, IL, and Bill Applegate of Palmetto, Florida. Three nieces, Kathy (Jeff) Stewart of Philo, IL, Phyllis Spencer of Danville, Pamela (Kirk) Peters of Quincy, her sister-in-law, Ruth Jones of Tilton, and several of her great-nieces and great-nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents and husband; one son, Gene Robertson, three brothers, Kenneth, John, and Max Jones; two sisters, Mildred Zenke and Francis Applegate, three nieces, Carol Lee Wimsett, Carolyn Marie Jones, and Linda Mae Lovelace., and her beloved boxers, Gretchen, Boots, and Timmy precede her in death. Flo worked at Sugar Creek Creamery and later was a produce manager at Mel's IGA, located in Danville, for several years. After Mel's closed, she worked at the Georgetown IGA for a short time before retiring. She was one of the top women bowlers in the city, having participated in several Battle of the Stars Tournaments, as well as many other city, state, and national tournaments. She was a member of the Ladies' Majors, the elite women's league of Danville at that time, and also served on the board of directors of the Danville Women's Bowling Association as 2nd Vice President from 1981-1982, and as President in 1982. Flo was inducted into the Danville Bowling Hall of Fame in 1989. Flo was a member of Crossroads Christian Chruch in Danville. She enjoyed gardening, decorating her yard for the holidays and collecting ceramic and jewelry-shaped turtles. A Celebration of Florence McMaster's Life has been scheduled for 10:00am on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville, with burial to follow at Georgetown Cemetery. Miles Clark has been asked by the family to officiate the service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-8pm on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
