Florence Hume

Florence K. Hume, 74, of Georgetown passed away at 2:45 PM on Friday, May 2, 2014 at her home. She was born on May 14, 1939, in Danville, the daughter of James and Velma (Gray) High. She married James A. Hume and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2005. Florence is survived by three sons: Brian, Emery and Tony (Jamie) Hume; four daughters: Shirley, Debbie, Joyce and Patsy (Michael) Parsons; seven grandchildren, Timothy Walsh, Brandon and Travis Digby, Kirsten Warner, Austin and Blake Shelton and Matthew Hume; two brothers, Mike High and Carl (Anita) High; one sister, Pat Newell; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and special friends, Teri Austin and Becky Anderson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jimmy High and one sister, Shirley Mae High. Family and friends, who stopped by to visit, would find Florence immersed in a novel or trying to solve the latest crossword puzzle. She thoroughly enjoyed “micromanaging” the lives of her grandchildren. There are also several neighborhood children who considered her their grandma. Florence was well known and liked by all at the local Georgetown Foods and Catlin Bank. The cats that resided nearby always knew they could visit Florence for a good meal. She was truly an angel who walked this earth and will be missed by her family. Services for Florence will be private. She will be laid to rest in Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Home in Westville is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to her family. Please join Florences family in sharing memories and photos of her life through her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
