Florence M. Darby, 96, of Danville, passed away at 9:45pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the home of her son, with her family by her side. She was born on July 16, 1913, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Alvin and Blanche (LeMay) Gill. On April 14, 1935, Florence married Mr. Charles W. Darby. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1978. Florence is survived by her two sons- James Big Jim (Caroline) Darby and David Darby both of Danville; eight grandchildren- Karen Ritz of Peoria, Arizona, Donna (Jim) Walthall, Linda (Bill) Sempsrott, Rich Darby all of Danville, Scott Darby of Austin, Texas, Tom (Kim) Darby of Danville, Matt Darby of Phoenix, Arizona, Stephanie Darby of Carmel, Indiana; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister- Betty Farr of Danville. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-Charles Gill and sister- Mary Brust. Florence and her husband Charles moved to Danville in October of 1960, when they purchased Sunset Memorial Park. Florence served in many capacities throughout her years at Sunset. She was involved in administrative duties, sales, gardening, and managing the Christmas Decorations Department each and every year at the cemetery. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville, and enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking. A Celebration of the life of Florence M. Darby will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Ed Stone officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial condolences may be made in Florences name to the Sunset Swan Pond Renovation Fund in care of Sunset Memorial Park.
