Florence B. Bumpus

Terre Haute, Ind. - Florence Bumpus, 92, of Terre Haute and formerly of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 5:20 p.m. EST Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born June 2, 1920 in Tilton, Illinos, the daughter of the late Fred and Verda Sowers Burlin. She married Ernest Paul Bumpus on December 4, 1983 in Kingman, Indiana. He preceded her in death on January 1, 1990. Survivors include her son, Rev. Larry(Sandy)Grimble of Greenville, South Carolina; stepson, Larry(Fran)Bumpus of Covington, Indiana; stepdaughter, Sharron Bumpus of Danville, Illinois; two grandchildren, Becky Grimble Gwizdala and Tommy(Angela)Grimble both of Greenville, South Carolina; three step grandchildren, Michelle(Justin)Fonner; Todd(Leslie)Bumpus and Jay(Karen)Bumpus all of Covington, Indiana; one niece, Judy Lilly of Attica, Indiana. Florence was preceded in death by one brother. Florence worked for ten years at Hooks Drug Store in Covington as a cashier and manager, retiring in 1984. Prior to that, she worked for her family business at the Polutra House and at Bowen Coal Company until its closing in 1978. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Danville, Illinois. Florence attended Covington High School. She enjoyed working on crafts, floral arrangements and cooking. At her request, cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be conducted in the spring of 2013. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
