Florence A. Burns, 94, of Danville, passed away at 1:10am on Monday, June 14, 2010 at Provena USMC in Danville. She was born on May 29, 1916, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Robert and Delia Upton, and had two younger siblings, Robert and Eleanor. She is survived by her two children, Raymond Taylor, Dianne Haynes, and her daughter-in-law, Wanda Taylor, who were by her side during her peaceful death. She will be dearly missed by her four grandchildren, Donna (Dale) Swick, Scott Taylor, Ryan Brown, and Damon (Michelle) Brown. Her four step-grandchildren, Lee Haynes, Mike Booe, Julie (Jim) Flynn, and Deborah (Jason) Smith, as well as her extended family and special friends. Florence especially enjoyed playing with her eight great-grandchildren, who include Courtney Swick, Katlynn Brown, Gavin Haynes, Nathan and Logan Booe, Kale Flynn, Greta and Keira Smith. In 1951, Florence moved from Chicago to Danville, IL, where she worked at Glo Pancake House and Steak-n-Shake. Her life revolved around children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her cat, Meanie, and dogs, Rascal, who lived for 19 years, and Coco, who is still living. She took pleasure in gardening at her home, shopping for birthday gifts, rummaging through yard sales and attending family dinners, particularly when everyone was there. During her later years, she rested while watching nature, looking at family pictures and talking to visiting family and friends. Family and friends will celebrate her 94 years with a visitation from 11:00am -12:00pm, with funeral service to follow at 12:00pm, on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Per her wishes, she will be cremated after services and will be laid to rest at Gordon Cemetery overlooking Lake Vermilion.
