GEORGETOWN: Ferne Lenhart, 100, of Georgetown, passed away at 6:35am on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, Ill. Ferne was born on September 20, 1907, the daughter of Bert and Carrie Hensley Hughes, both deceased. On November 15, 1930, Ferne married Mr. Herbert Lenhart in Georgetown. They were married for over 60 years until his death in January of 1991. Ferne is survived by her son: Doyne (Marcia) Lenhart of Georgetown, her three grandchildren: Tracy (Brian) Morgan of Cayuga, IN, Kerry (Johnna) Lenhart of Perrysville, IN, and Jeff Lenhart of Cayuga, IN, her eight great grandchildren; Anne Morgan, Brent Morgan, Carter Morgan, Kody Lenhart, Abbigail Lenhart, Wyatt Lenhart, Natalie Lenhart, and Hudson Lenhart, and a special mention to Gladys Arnett for working as Fernes caregiver for the past 9 years. Fernes infant son; Hugh Norman Lenhart, 3 brothers; Herbert, Herschel, and Harlan Hughes, 5 sisters; Erschel Sprouls, Eleanor Todd, Patricia Brown, Fay Spicer, Eunice Jenkins, and her great granddaughter; Emma Rose Lenhart preceded her in death. Ferne was a former Westville High School Cheerleader during the 1920s and worked as a teacher and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Georgetown. Ferne was involved with various activities to include: Chairman of Vermilion County F.B. Womens Committee, Georgetown P.T.A., and the Extension Council, both on local and county levels, serving on the county board for three years. An original Board Member of H.I.A. Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Georgetown Chapter of Eastern Star, and the Georgetown 4-H Leader. She was also a member of the Sorosis Club, and member of the W.Y.L.K. Club for 44 years. Ferne was a member of the Georgetown Bethel Baptist Church. A celebration of life service for Ferne Lenhart is scheduled for 1:00pm CST on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Georgetown Bethel Baptist Church located at 501 S. Main Street in Georgetown. Officiating the service will be Pastor Gerald McPhillips. Final resting place will be at the Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm CST, on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home located at 200 E. West St. in Georgetown. Memorial donations may be made in Fernes name to the American Heart Association.
