Fern (McLaughlin) Spencer of Danville, died February 4, 2009. She was born March 8, 1925 in Hedrick, Indiana the daughter of Edward M. and Helen (Pratt) McLaughlin. Fern was raised in Warren County and graduated in 1943 from West Lebanon High School. She attended and graduated from Lake View School of Nursing in 1946. Fern worked as a nurse at Lake View Hospital and the VA Hospital in Danville, Kapiolani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida, and South Highland Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She also worked at Teepak in Danville. Fern married Harold Spencer in Covington, Indiana in 1951. She later married James Lawrence in Fort Myers, Florida. Survivors include three daughters: Lu Ann (Michael) Powers, Janet (Leroy) Palin, Jill Spencer; one brother: William Robert (Billy Bob) McLaughlin of St. Louis; two granddaughters: Paula (Nick) McLain, Lauren Palin; two grandsons: Aaron Palin, Shawn (Erin) Powers and one great-grandson: Nathan Powers. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, two brothers: Harold McLaughlin from Attica, IN and Edward McLaughlin from Hedrick, IN. Fern was a 50 year member of the Lake View Alumni Association. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 282 Newtown, Indiana, dermit and AARP. A celebration of the life of Fern Spencer will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in Ferns name to the Humane Society.
